These services typically involve collaborating with clients to transform underutilised basements into valuable extensions of their homes or businesses
Building underground requires a specific set of skills and knowledge.
The Basement Structures team are experienced in using all the construction methods you’ll need for your project.
Structural Engineering Design
Karsten started working as a structural engineer in the UK over 15 years ago, initially working at Atkins and more recently as a Director at Fluid Structures. He is a Chartered Structural Engineer (Member of the ICE) with key experience in new-build, extension and refurbishment building projects. He is very experienced working on retaining structures in infrastructure and residential projects.
Party Wall Surveys
While undertaking structural modifications, the chances of encroaching onto a neighbour's property are significant. ‘With loft conversions, problems are caused by raising the Party Wall (the physical divide between premises) or inserting steel beams and, with basements, it’s new foundations. See more about Party Walls below.
Site Investigation Reports
Site investigation reports are concise documents that detail the findings of thorough assessments conducted on specific locations. These reports typically include information on geological, environmental, and structural aspects of the site, gathered through methods like soil testing, sampling, and analysis.
Movement Monitoring
Movement monitoring refers to the gradual shifts or changes in the structural integrity or position of a building as it ages. These movements can result from various factors such as settlement of the foundation, soil erosion, seismic activity, or changes in temperature and humidity. Over time, these movements may lead to visible signs of wear and tear, such as cracks in walls or ceilings, uneven floors, or doors and windows that no longer close properly.
